Lwandle police are on the hunt for three suspects believed to have been involved in a triple murder in the Strand township last night (Tuesday 6 June).
The suspects remain at large after the fatal shooting, which claimed the lives of three men aged, 26, 34 and 40.
According to Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for the Lwandle police, the incident occurred at the Simanyene informal settlement around 20:00 when the three assailants arrived at the undisclosed address and opened fire on the trio who were targeted inside the residence. Gama says the three men whose identities are yet to be confirmed, were fatally wounded in the attack.
“Police were alerted to the incident and on arrival found three men who had succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds to their heads on the scene,” Gama said. “The motive remains unknown.”
Police are investigating a case of murder and working around the clock, following up on information which could lead to a possible breakthrough and the apprehension of the suspects believed to have fled the scene on foot.
Lwandle police are urging anyone with information that may aid their investigation or help track down the culprits to contact the investigating officer, Detective Captain Dhanabalan Pillay, on 079 894 0119 or 021 845 2060.
The incident follows three murders branded alleged community attacks that occurred in the township at the end of May.
DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette previously reported on the incidents, two of which occurred on Monday 29 May with a third the following day, Tuesday the 30th.
The first murder took place in Freedom Park informal settlement, Asanda Village, at 07:00 on Monday. Two unknown men who apparently fell victim to a brutal assault by community members were discovered in a river in the area. One of the victims died on-scene while the other survived and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Police are yet to make an arrest in connection with the murder and attempted murder cases which have been opened after the incident.
The second murder followed at 09:00. The body of another unknown man was discovered at the Robben Island informal settlement. The man who was naked and had sustained multiple injuries, was allegedly also the victim of an assault by members of the community.
The third murder took place in Mxolisi Street, Nomzamo, last Tuesday at 10:05. A 33-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained in yet another community attack.
Lwandle police say the motive for these cases remain unclear and no arrests had been made yet.
