Layusa Oslodien started her teaching career at a very young age at her alma mater, Strand Moslem Primary School in 1982.

She obtained her primary education at Strand Moslem Primary and CR Rhoda Methodist Primary, after which she attended Gordon High where completed Grade 10.

In 1979, Oslodien attended the Wesley Training College in Salt River for a three-year course and successfully obtained a Junior Primary Teaching Certificate.

She further improved her academic qualification by matriculating as a part-time student in 2007.

In 2010, Oslodien improved her professional qualification by obtaining a National Professional Diploma in Education at the University of the Western Cape.

Throughout her teaching career she taught the Grade 3s of Strand Moslem Primary. In 2014, she was appointed head of department. In recent times Oslodien loyally served as a member of the school management team.

As part of her extra-mural activities she was in charge of one of the netball teams, and in recent times she also managed the mini-cricket and mini-rugby events.

Serving under five principals, Oslodien holds the distinction of being the first educator to serve the same school for 41 continuous years.

She married Sameeg Oslodien in 1994 and together they have two children, Imtiyaaz and Siddeeqah.

The Strand Muslim community wishes to thank “Juffrou Oslodien” for the motherly and caring way in which she taught their children and wish her well in her retirement.
