A sense of kindness and compassion for fellow citizens engulfed the Helderberg on Mandela Day, celebrated on Tuesday (18 July), which coincided with reopening of schools after the winter break. This was evident at Nomzamo High School, where Strong Schools ZA, a non-profit organisation that supports sustainable change in school, partnered with Maria Kotze Gardens, Capitec Bank and Prominent Paints to establish a sustainable vegetable garden at the school and also paint the maths classroom. Learners of the school known as the ‘green fingers’ assisted in the project which aims to also teach them to grow and nurture the garden. Here with the learners and Capitec volunteers, behind, are Trudie Schoeman of Strong Schools, Nomzamo High principal Chris Mgubanto, Maria Kotze of Maria Kotze Gardens and school teacher Zintle Limba.Photos: Yaseen Gaffar
