A total of 80 girl learners at schools in the Helderberg will no longer have to worry about missing important school days every month, thanks to a donation of reusable sanitary pads and panties by the Helderberg Rotary Anns. The project to keep girls of the basin in school has been run by the local charity since 2015, with about 1 500 leaners from the area having benefited since the project’s launch. This year’s donation of the products called SUBZ totalled R18 320, and were distributed to learners from, among others, Raithby, Somerset West Methodist and Tereo primary schools as well as the Somerset West Family Shelter. Rotary Ann Ingrid Edelson (left) was happy to hand the donation over to Nicolette Williams of Raithby Primary.

Social worker Martha Roberts and Clarine Ward of the Somerset Family Shelter happily received the donation for some of the young residents of the local shelter. According to Helderberg Rotary Anns president Rejane van der Grijp, they will continue to run the project. The community can support the initiative by calling Van der Grijp on 083 233 1692.Foto:
