The Department of Social Development in Somerset West is requesting information from anyone to help find the family of a teenage child.
The department is searching for relatives, particularly the biological father, of 15-year-old Athule Mbuli, who is currently in foster care as his biological mother, Nonkosi Mbuli is deceased. The surviving parent’s name is Simthembile Silo (40), who is sought for matters pertaining to the Children’s Court.
Mbuli’s death in September 2008 was not registered as she did not have any formal identity documents. The child in question was seven months old at the time and Silo was unable to care for the infant. Consequently, the child was placed in foster care, then with Nomaqumru Lumka at the Ncedulunthu Sanctuary Trust on 19 November 2008.
On 19 July 2016 the child was placed in the care of his current foster parent, Florence Nolulamo Kholiso. This after all the children who were entrusted to the Ncedulunthu Sanctuary Trust needed to be removed, as the facility was not registered and the child found to be in need of care and protection in terms of the Children’s Act 38/2005.
Anyone with information is urged to contact social worker Nokulunga Damba on 021 840 3500 (during office hours between 07:30-16:00) or Nokulungu.Damba@westerncape.gov.za.
