Excitement is building ahead of the 2024 Boland Islamic Council Women’s League (BICWL) Pink Walk for Cancer, which will also mark the 20th anniversary of the event that is expected to attracted well over 5 000 participants early next year.

A launch event was officially held at Harmony Park, situated between Strand and Gordon’s Bay, on Wednesday 4 October. Key role-players of the Pink Walk were invited by the BICWL and urged to continue showing their support for the event.

Guests included representatives from the traffic department, police, Disaster Risk Management, security companies, Strand Neighbourhood Watch, community policing forum, business owners, the Parks and Recreation Department, Strand Athletics Club and other crucial donors of the event.

BICWL chairperson Sumaya Gabier welcomed those in attendance before providing a short background on the BICWL executive and the history of the Pink Walk for Cancer, which was inaugurated back in 1998.

From humble beginnings the event has become a major contributor towards cancer treatments, aiding in contributing thousands to various beneficiaries over the year, all in the name of fighting cancer across all communities irrespective of creed or race.

Guests in attendance also shared their experiences of the Pink Walk for Cancer over the years, with all in agreement that it was a privilege and honour to be part of the fundraiser, They also pledged their support going forward.

BICWL also announced that the beneficiary for 2024 will be the Tygerberg Hospital’s Oncology Department. For further information, contact Sumaya Gabier at 084 010 1003.
