Over three weeks people of Lwandle enjoyed a sports tournament in Lwandle, comprising u-18 soccer, u-19 rugby and u-18 netball, with a record number of participants and entries from teams outside the Helderberg.
It was organised by Masincedane Community Service in partnership with Nomzamo Ikwezi Health Committee, Jerry Bobi Youth Development Projects and other community-based organisations.
The tournament also had the support of the Department of Health and SAPRIN (South African Population Research Infrastructure Network).
Each category of sport culminated in finals and prize giving. “It was clear to see the joy and appreciation on the faces of the players, all of whom enjoyed the tournament immensely and helped each other recognise an initiative of community upliftment,” said Marcia Torres of Masincedane Community Service.
“We hope to host a similar event next year, as we feel strongly about youth development and keeping the youngsters off the streets. As health workers this is wellness in action, and we want to thank all those who assisted for their donations, funds and support.”
