Police officers from Lwandle Police and officers from the Tactical Response Team (TRT) successfully executed two drug arrests in the area on Wednesday 10 January.
Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, confirmed that members of the crime-prevention unit obtained a search warrant, which was executed at a house where the drugs were discovered. He related: “Officers seized an undisclosed amount of mandrax, 23 small bags of dagga as well as an undisclosed amount of dagga in a grey plastic bag and money.
“A 28-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of drugs.”
TRT officers also arrested a 38-year-old suspect from Nigeria after swooping on his residence and finding drugs stashed in one of the wardrobes.
“The officers who were on patrol received a tip-off about someone selling drugs in the area,” he elaborated.
“The officers immediately responded and searched the suspect’s house. A total of 571 mandrax tablets and a bag containing tik was discovered inside a wardrobe.”
Both suspects were arrested for possession of drugs and are expected to appear in Strand Magistrates’ Court.
