Six suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of tik and mandrax tablets in Lourensia Park, Garden Village and Sir Lowry’s Pass.

According to Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, spokesperson for the Somerset West police, the first arrest took place on Friday 19 January, when police visited an address in Wessels Street, Garden Village, with a search warrant and arrested a 43-year-old man.

“Tik was found on the premises,” she said.

“The man was arrested for possession of drugs.”

Later that evening, around 21:30, when police were patrolling Lourensia Park a man started running on seeing them.

“Police confiscated 100 mandrax tablets found on the suspect, who was arrested for possession.”

On Sunday 21 January, at 21:30, police were patrolling in Mahayele Street, Sir Lowry’s Pass when they spotted a suspect running into a house. “Officers followed the man and found 57 mandrax tablets, 49 tik sachets and a small amount of cash,” Jantjies related.

She confirmed last Tuesday (23 January), at 09:00, police officers were patrolling in Mahanyele Street again when they arrested a 45-year-old man for being in possession of mandrax and tik.

The last two arrests were made on 14:50 and 15:30 in Lourensia Park and Garden Village, respectively. The first took place when officers spotted a suspicious-looking man and found 24 small bags of tik on him. He was arrested for possession of drugs.

The last suspect was arrested at 15:30 in Garden Village when police stopped and searched him, and found tik and mandrax tablets.

Somerset West police acting station commander Detective Lieutenant Colonel Sizakele Hantibi commended the officers for the arrests.
