A dead man found in an open field in De Kok Street, Strand, last Monday (18 March) has been identified as 31-year-old Sbusiso Mboyiya, a resident of Lwandle.

DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette previously reported on the horrific discovery made by passers-by around 06:44 last Monday morning (“Body found in open field,” 20 March).

According to police, the deceased was found lying on his stomach with five open stab wounds to the head. A small crowd of curious onlookers gathered at the scene while others continued on their way to work almost unperturbed by the distressing sight.

The motive for the murder remained unclear, but there are indications the man could’ve been the victim of a robbery, as his body was found without shoes. There were also indications the murder could have taken place earlier that weekend. Police said the body was already stiff and the scene indicated the body was dumped.

This week police confirmed they were still investigating the matter and no suspects had been apprehended.

“[There are] no witnesses and no known suspects.”
