The Lulu Boys are gearing up for the Western Province 7’s tournament set to take place in October.


On Friday 6 September, St George’s RFC delivered a stellar performance at the CPUT 7’s Challenge, marking a significant step in their preparations for the eagerly awaited Western Province 7’s tournament set to commence on Monday 14 October.

The event was a showcase of thrilling sevens rugby, featuring formidable teams such as Maties, Hamiltons, CPUT, and the Home Boys, all competing in an action-packed evening of sport.

St George’s RFC, appearing as if they had never taken a break from the sevens format, provided spectators with plenty to cheer about. Star playmakers Junaid Phillips and Curtley Hendrikse dazzled on the field, offering a tantalising glimpse of what’s to come at the WP 7’s. Their exceptional performances, combined with the team’s overall cohesion, set the stage for an exciting rugby season ahead.

In terms of results, St George’s dominated most of their matches. They secured an impressive 29-5 victory over Hamiltons, followed by a well-earned 22-10 win against Maties. Although CPUT handed them their only defeat of the night, beating them 24-14, St George’s bounced back with a solid 19-7 victory over the Home Boys.
