The Strand Community Policing Forum (CPF) held a crime-prevention meeting with various safety-and-security stakeholders at the Faith Chapel Church on Wednesday 11 September. The focal point of discussions was how social economic factors contributed to the rise in crime, especially in certain areas identified as hot spots. The meeting came after a joint high-designation visibility operation executed by the CPF, police, neighbourhood watches and various security companies in Strand on Friday 30 August. The organisations patrolled the hot-spot areas, leading to a number of arrests. The operation was deemed a success. Wednesday’s meeting was attended by the Strand Police Station commander Colonel Khunjulwa Khanyile and Robin Maripan, Head of Community Corrections in Somerset West. The meeting concluded with all the stakeholders recommitting as a unified front to the fight against crime. They believe a partnership-based approach will be key to curbing and ultimately seeing the stabilisation of crime in these hot-spot areas and ensuring the communities are well-protected.
