Just weeks after its official launch, the community driven initiative Smiling Child is making its mark on the community by addressing the educational needs of vulnerable children from Morkel’s Cottage informal settlement in Strand.

The emergence of Smiling Child stems from the observations of Sharon Engelbrecht, who identified a cohort of children consistently absent from formal schooling.
