A captivating cricket match unfolded between Hottentots Holland and Victoria cricket clubs in a First Division A clash, with Victoria ultimately clinching a hard-fought victory at the Naval Sports Ground.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first, setting the stage for an intriguing contest.
HHCC started strongly with the ball, restricting Victoria’s early scoring and picking up crucial wickets. By the 16th over, Vics were struggling on 56/4, seemingly on the back foot. However, a resilient 107-run partnership turned the tide, bringing the visitors back into the game and propelling them to a final total of 231. HHCC’s Marwaan Wanza (2/34) and Rasool Thomas (2/46) were the standout bowlers.
HHCC adopted a cautious approach in their chase, with the first wicket falling in the 14th over with the score at 43. However, after the drinks break and the 30th over, Victoria’s bowlers tightened their grip, leaving HHCC at a precarious 100/5. Just when it seemed the game was slipping away, a magnificent 89-run partnership between Thomas (57) and Yaasien Railoun (36) reignited HHCC’s hopes. The home team needed 39 runs from the final three overs and despite their best efforts, they fell agonisingly short by 11 runs, finishing on 220.
HHCC are desperate for a quick turnaround with a double-header this weekend, hosting Strandfontein on Saturday and Pinelands on Sunday.

Despite Strand’s efforts to break partnerships, South Peninsula managed to keep the scoreboard ticking, accumulating a total of 197/10 in 49.4 overs.
Strand’s bowlers toiled hard in the hot conditions, with Sharwaan Naidoo (3/53), Winston Isaacs (4/36) and Ashwyn Julies (2/17) the pick of the bowlers.
