The CSV Academy celebrated its first successful year of operation with an end of year function for participating learners on Friday 20 November.
The academy was established with the aim of assisting learners from the Helderberg and Stellenbosch to enter the world of construction, starting with additional mathematics and science classes for a select group of Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners, and finally progressing to bursaries and employment opportunities with the construction company.
The learners, recruited from Hottentots-Holland High School, Macassar Secondary School and Kayamandi High School, all saw marked improvements in their academic results this year.
Next year the academy will expand, adding more learners per grade per school and CSV Construction also announced the inclusion of Cloetesville High School.
Alex von Klopmann, CSV managing director, thanked all learners, tutors and support staff involved in the academy for their part in making the initiative a success. He added the company is looking forward to even greater successes next year.
At the ceremony, the top achievement awards were presented to Phikolomzi Khiba (Grade 12: Kayamandi High School) and Olwethu Pakisi (Grade 11: Kayamandi High School). The most improved learner awards were presented to Eishle Faleni (Grade 12: Hottentots Holland High School) and Siyanda Dyomfana (Grade 11: Kayamandi High School).
