A suspected abalone poacher was arrested by Strand police this morning (Thursday) following a high speed chase in Main Road, Strand.
The exact details of the incident are unclear, but a Strand police spokesperson confirmed the incident and the arrest, which is believed to have taken place under the Van der Stel bridge in Main Road. It is believed the suspect was driving a BMW and a chase had been ensued by traffic officers.
DistrictMail received reports of an accident involving multiple vehicles in Main Road, Strand this morning and it is believed the suspect may have been involved in the accident, which eventually led to his arrest. Strand police, however, could not confirm this.
According to the spokesperson, the man was found in possession of an unknown amount of shelled abalone and was arrested.
