The PV learners who excelled during the UCT Mathematics Challenge at the back are Benjamin Kleyn, Louis Cronje and Jared Slater

A team consisting of 97 Parel Vallei High School learners participated in the UCT Mathematics Competition.

A total of 3 183 individuals and 2 253 pairs from 132 schools participated in the annual event, which saw five PV learners claim gold awards – Grade 10s Jared Slater (second), Chaewon Lee (fourth) and Louis Cronje (fourth); Grade 11 learner Benjamin Kleyn (second); and Grade 12 learner Yeson Jeong (fifth).

Twelve PV learners were also invited to participate in the second round of the UCT Mathematics Competition. The school’s top achievers in the challenge were Grade 8 learner Chaeyoon Lee (sixth); Grade 10s Chaewon Lee, Jared Slater and Louis Cronje (joint ninth place); Grade 11 Benjamin Kleyn (first); and matriculant Yesol Jeong (fifth).

Chaeyoon Lee, Benjamin Kleyn and Yesol Jeong have also been invited to participate in the third round of the competition later this month.
