Officer Colin Maritz of Securite apprehends a suspect found hiding underneath a computer table at a home in First Avenue, Strand.


A suspect was found hiding under a computer table at a home he had just broken into in First Street, Strand on Friday 28 January.

The Secure Rite Control room received an alarm activation at 11:30 at the residential property and despatched Secure Rite Armed Response Manager Herman Ras as well as the Secure Rite Motorcycle crime prevention squad Rohan Nolte and Colin Maritz.

Ras found the back door forced open and called for back-up. Officer Colin Maritz came to assist while Rohan Nolte guarded the front of the house. Ras and Maritz heard movement inside the house and entered where they found one suspect hiding underneath a computer table. The suspect was detained and when questioned revealed that two other suspects had already fled the scene.

Nolte broadcasted a message over the Strand Neighbourhood Watch (SNW) to be on the lookout and moments later Strand Public Safety foot patrol officer JJ Venter managed to detain a second suspect.

SNW, AM Security and GBSec officers continued searching for the third suspect, but to no avail. Strand police arrived on the scene and arrested the suspects, after which they were charged for house breaking.

. Also on Friday 28 January, around 12:00, a call came to the Secure Rite Control Room regarding a suspect who had stolen a wallet from a motor vehicle in Drama Street, Somerset West CBD.

Secure Rite Control room despatched Armed Response officers as well as Public Safety officers to assist.

The suspect fled the scene with Armed Response officers and Public Safety officers in hot pursuit and soon the suspect was detained in Victoria Street. The suspect was taken back to the scene of the crime, when the Somerset West police arrived and arrested the suspect for theft from a motor vehicle.
