Both teams of Helderberg Cricket Club (HCC) will want to move forward and look to finish the season strong following their two defeats in league outings on Saturday 5 March.

The club’s first team was in action at Helderzicht Sports Ground against Cravenby CC coming agonisingly close to victory. However, they had to bow the knee as they suffered an 11-run defeat in the First Division C match. The visitors batted first and set 246/6 in 50 overs. For HCC, Dexter Hindley gave an economical, disciplined bowling display, recording figures of 2/27 in 10 overs. Marcello Thomas, Damian Jooste, Shane Fredericks and Gasant Moller all picked up one wicket. In their innings, the home side put up a brave fight with opening batsman Thomas (25) leading the chase. The efforts of Garth Hurling (65) and Jooste (58) brought Somerset West boys closer to the target, but it was not enough to take them over the line as they were all bowled out for 235 in 49 overs.

The HCC second team were completely overhauled in their Reserve D League match against Northerns-Goodwood CC in Goodwood, as they succumbed to a 232-run defeat.

The hosts batted first and scored a mammoth 365/7. Chad Hendrikson (4/40 in 10 overs) and Bronwyn Jantjies (2/59 in seven overs) were the stand-out performers for HCC, who set out to chase down the large total and started well thanks to the efforts of the opening pair of Enver van Boom (23) and Alton Roberts (14), as well as number-three batter Bradley Jakes (30) and Sharick Swarts (15). However, the visitors struggled to ward off the relentless attack of the Northerns-Goodwood bowlers. They were eventually all bowled out for 133 runs after 41,4 overs.
