Somerset West Shaolin Wushu Kung Fu Academy obtained top three certificates for their students’ performances in the globally recognised Shaolin Kung Fu online contest.
According to Sifu Andre de Wit Kruger, the dojo received a personal invitation to participate in the contest earlier this year, which they accepted.
The Shaolin Kung Fu online contest was jointly initiated and organised by the Songshan Shaolin Temple in China and Shaolin Cultural Centres (museums and schools) in 124 cities on five continents, aiming to celebrate the 2022 Happy Chinese Year with Shaolin Kung Fu enthusiasts from all over the world, refresh the spirit and welcome a new life in the future.
The theme of the competition was “peace, friendship, health, happiness, inheritance, and sharing”. The content of the test included individual events such as Shaolin Kung Fu boxing and Shaolin One-Move, collective events such as collective Shaolin boxing and family events such as family Shaolin Kung Fu exercises.
It was conducted in the form of a combination of online submissions of competition videos and offline technical officer judgments.
Three local students who entered the competition performed very well, obtaining one first place and two second places.
Keeshwa Adonis obtained first place in the women’s group C Wubu Quan category, Kylan Fagan obtained second place in the men’s group C Lianhuan Quan category, and Morgan Micheletti also obtained second place in the men’s group C Lianhuan Quan category.
Sifu De Wit is immensely pleased with the students’ performances, branding it a “great accolade” to have obtained these certificates, which are globally recognised.
“We’re very proud of the students and look forward to entering more international competitions to measure ourselves against the best,” he said.
