The drum majorettes from Hottentots Holland High School excelled at the recent Western Province Majorette and Cheerleading Association competition.

The drummies claimed top three places in various categories in the competition which took place at Dr Van der Ross Primary School in Belhar on Saturday 23 April.

The HHH drum majorettes are lead by team captain Tanique Williams and team leader Jamy Malgas, who is also the school’s head girl. Both learners are in Grade 12.

“In the throwing prop small group category, we took second and third place. In the throwing prop group category, we claimed second place, while we took first place in the non-prop-group category,” Jamy proudly relayed.

The leadership duo said the team of 61 members is made up of girls have represented Western Province and South Africa in the sport.

“We train for numerous hours throughout the week and on weekends. It is a sport that requires dedication and discipline,” Tanique pointed out.

Jamy implored young girls to take up the sport. “The sparkly outfits are nice to wear, but we put in a lot of time behind the scenes. It felt good to perform so well at the recent competition,” she concluded.
