All roads lead to Gustrouw Sports Ground this weekend, as the top two teams in Super League C (SLC) battle it out in what will surely be an exciting match. The rest of the fixtures are quite interesting as well as Super League B (SLB) is taking shape very nicely.
) All Saints vs Busy Bees (Langa)
Saints have simply been on fire in recent weeks as they gel nicely and gain positive momentum. Going to Busy Bees is never easy, as they will face big forwards and skillful backs. Another win on the road would be a great result as Saint have already claimed 13 points on the road.
) St George’s vs Langa (Gustrouw)
The Lulus thrashed Vineyards and would like to make it three wins in a row. Langa are similar to Busy Bees, and should not be taken lightly. Another win for St George’s and the early-season hurdles will be forgotten.
) Helderberg vs Primrose (Charles Morkel)
Berge knows a home win is non-negotiable if they wish to remain top of SLB. I simply don’t see the team from Rosmead posing too much resistance, but will play will passion.
) Strand United vs Pniel Villagers (Abbatoir)
United were surprisingly competitive against Kylemore, taking into account their lengthy break. A fitter, better prepared United this week could see Pniel under pressure. I wouldn’t be surprised by a United win.
) Strand vs Macassar (Strand)
Taking form, log positions, unbeaten runs, derby status and league winning aspirations into account, could we ask for a better or bigger setting for this match? Strand have swept away everyone in their path, winning their matches by 30-plus points. Macassar have enjoyed similar form, but their win over CPUT at the weekend os what separates the two teams, in my opinion. Macassar could dominate at the front, but Strand arguably has the best backline in the Helderberg. If I was a betting man, I’d go for Macassar, but Strand will give their all. This is another match that will prove that the Helderberg Basin are “The Derby Kings”.
- Gordon’s Bay Pioneers and Sir Lowrians have the weekend off after recording victories at the weekend.
