A motorist was arrested after ploughing his vehicle through the kiosk entrance of a petrol station located on the N2 outside Macassar on Sunday (12 June). According to a Macassar police spokesperson, the 41-year-old man, believed to have been travelling from Somerset West towards Mfuleni, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and malicious damage to property following the incident at the Shell service station at 19:35. The spokesperson said details of the crash are still unclear, but property damage of around R200 000 was incurred. The suspect was expected to appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Tuesday 14 June).
