Strand author Judith Vollmer was among 150 authors on the continent honoured at the fifth AfriCAN Annual Global Honoree Authors Awards 2022, held at the Genesis Conference in Fairmont, Johannesburg, on Sunday 31 July.

“It was a great honour to be nominated and a more glorious moment to be awarded for my book, Kyla & die Stad se Kersliggies,” said Vollmer, who also mentioned that a subsequent adventure of Kyla would be hitting bookstores soon.

The awards were founded by self-published author Anthea Thyssen, who has honoured 463 authors on the continent to date. She stressed the AfriCAN Honoree Authors’ Awards are not a competition, but a platform for recognising ordinary people brave enough to take up the “pen”. “All honoured in 2022 have contributed to the Conscious Authorship Initiative supporting the spekboom tree, where writers honour the Earth,” Thyssen stated.
