The first team of Macassar Cricket Club (MCC) recorded a three-wicket bonus-point victory to bounce back after last weekend’s two defeats this past Saturday (19 November).
The local lads locked horns with Pollsmoor CC in a Western Province Cricket Association First Division D match in Tokai, delivering an overall team performance on the day. MCC skipper Rowayne Sinden won the toss and chose to field, with opening bowlers Cameron Mitchell (1/11) and Franklin le Fleur bowling well in tandem to claim one scalp and restrict the home side’s batsmen.
Tristan de Wet and Steven Levendal (3/18) continued with strict bowling and the wickets also started to fall. Left arm seamer David Sebastian (4/23) was also brought into the attack and continued to pile on the pressure, with Pollsmoor CC eventually bowled out for 127 in the 38th over.
The Seagulls’ opening pair of Brandon Williams (32) and Sebastian (28) enjoyed a good start, taking their team to 36/0 after overs at lunch. After the break Sebastian lost his wicket and a mini-collapse followed. Veteran Quinton Bowman (26) showed his class and experience, supporting Mitchell in the middle for a 63-run partnership.
The pair, however, both lost their wickets with the visitors needing nine runs to win. They eventually crossed the line with three wickets in hand to bag another bonus-point win.
Meanwhile, the MCC second team hosted their Helderberg CC counterparts at Riverside Oval. The hosts scored 114/10 with Celenshi van Graan (39) top scoring.
In the chase, Helderberg CC proved the stronger team, reaching 118/6 to take the four-wicket, bonus-point victory. The best MCC bowlers were Van Graan (2/32), Gakeem Stemmet (2/18), Franco Delis (1/11) and Joseph (1/10).
