In the last round of club cricket fixtures before the mid-season break for some clubs affiliated to the Western Province Cricket Association, Hottentots Holland Cricket Club’s (HHCC) first team faced Kensington CC at the latter’s home ground in a First Division B match on Saturday (10 December).

The visitors batted first and, after losing wickets at regular intervals, HHCC still managed to get themselves to a respectable total of 208/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Naeem Rhoda (61) and player/coach Abdul Aziz Temoor (34) were the main contributors with the willow.

At the turn of the innings, HHCC came out guns blazing as they dismissed Kensington for a lowly 26 runs to secure a massive 183-run bonus-point victory. HHCC bowler Yaaseen Smith was in destructive form as he claimed 5/18. He was well supported by Rasool Thomas (4/8) as HHCC cemented their place on top of the log at the festive season break.

The HHCC second team hosted Kuils River CC at the Navy Sports Ground in Gordon’s Bay on the same day. The home side won the toss, electing to field first. This proved to be a great decision as HHCC dismissed Kuila for a dismal 82 runs. Rewayne Viljoen (3 wickets), Shuaib Salie (2 wickets) and Guillaume Jansen (2 wickets) were the hosts’ chief destroyers.

In the batting department HHCC made a light work of the total as they managed to creep to a four-wicket bonus-point win. Irshaad Salie (28*) carried his bat.

Meanwhile, the HHCC third team hosted Bellville CC at Abbatoir Sports Ground in Strand. The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 118 thanks to good bowling from Byron Basdeo (4/18) and Ismodeen Brinkhuis (3/14). In their innings, HHCC cruised to a seven-wicket bonus-point win thanks to contributions by Ebrahim Pedro (49*) and Ilyaas Petersen (45).

After all three HHCC men’s teams secured bonus-point wins they are sitting handsomely in their respective leagues, with the first team in first place in First Division B, the second in third in Reserve 2D, the thirds in third place in the 3B League and the women’s team mid table in the Women’s League.
