Badisa Strand in partnership with the Parent Centre in Wynberg has embarked on a partnership to facilitate a free three-week Fatherhood Training course.
According to Brendyn Alloys from Badisa Strand the training will be facilitated by Shuaib Salie from the Parent Centre.
“Our invitation is to men and fathers in the Helderberg and surrounding communities to participate in this training. There exists a plethora of research that suggests that positive, involved and active fatherhood improves the well-being outcomes for children and families.
“This is aligned with our child protection strategy to create safe spaces for children in families,” says Alloys.
He adds that they are keen to explore working collaboratively and to partner with the Parent Centre to enable men and fathers to raise resilient and well-balanced children so that they will be able to thrive and contribute meaningfully towards society.
“Our intention is to improve the well-being outcomes for all our children and provide a safety net for children and families within the Helderberg and surrounding areas.”
He explains that the training takes place on Tuesday 9, 16 and 23 May, as well as Wednesday 10, 17 and 24 May at Charles Morkel Stadium’s Hall. The training is open to the entire community at no charge. Booking is essential as there are only 40 spots available to keen participants.
Alloys urges men who are striving to become better fathers for their children to join in on the training session.
He says that evidence exists when men and boys engage in a community-based intervention similar to the Fatherhood Training programme it significantly reduces the likelihood of domestic violence and other forms of violence against women and children.
