Macassar police are investigating carjacking and kidnapping cases after a man and woman were hijacked in the area last week.

The couple, who are apparently Chinese nationals, were hijacked along Macassar Road on Thursday 20 April around 18:00.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the suspects had fled the scene in the vehicle, with the female occupant.

“The vehicle was later recovered in New Road, Macassar, and five suspects were arrested,” he said. “We can confirm the woman was found in Khayelitsha on Friday (21 April). The circumstances surrounding the incident forms part of the police investigation which remains ongoing.”

The five suspects made their first appearance in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on Monday 24 April.
