Proud graduate Clevelan Fallenstein (24) from Bell Glen, Macassar obtained a Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care from Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

An exemplary Macassar youngster who believes his inspirational journey en route to career success is testament to Psalm 128:2, “You will eat the fruit of your labour; blessings and prosperity will be yours,” urges fellow youths to put in the time and work to reach their goals.

Clevelan Fallenstein from Bell Glen is reaping such rewards, having obtained his Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology last month. The 24-year-old was one of a group of high-school learners who had completed a first-aid course facilitated by former Metro rescue instructor Donny Dunn and Rashied Isaacs in 2014, an opportunity that mapped out future tertiary academic success and what promises to be a passion-fuelled career ahead.

After completing the level-1 first-aid course, Fallenstein took his training up a notch by joining Disaster Risk Management as a volunteer, learning there are greater heights to achieve and kick-starting his keenness to pursue a career in the medical rescue field. Also influencing his vocational choice was an “I want to be here for you” nature coupled with a passion to make a difference, so a career as an emergency medical worker was a natural progression that could be pursued only after completing the correct subjects to acquire the qualification. He had attended Oklahoma Street Primary and Zandvliet High School and now, nearly five years after starting his studies, reaps the fruits of his labour.

“I feel beyond blessed because I never gave up on my goal and dream,” said Fallenstein, who looks forward to working as an Independent Emergency Care Practitioner. “All my hard work didn’t go to waste.”

Asked what message he would extend to other youngsters searching for better opportunities, he said: “Sacrifice for what you love, before what you love becomes a sacrifice. If you really want it as you claim, you have no excuse to stop.”
