The South African Navy is crisscrossing the country in search of potential divers until Tuesday 30 May.
Divers are integral to any missions and operations of the SA Navy and their invaluable functions include among others, underwater and coastal reconnaissance, search and rescue, clearance diving, demolitions and salvage operations.
This is not a regular South African National Defence Force (SANDF) recruitment drive, but a specific targeted search that seeks to recruit diver candidates for the SA Navy.
The following criteria will be applicable:
¦ Candidates should be South African citizens,
¦ Must be between 18 and 22 years of age and should have completed matric with pure mathematics.
¦ If older than 22 years they should be in possession of a tertiary qualification, but be not older than 26 years.
Potential candidates are required to bring swimming costumes and physical training attire (vest/T-shirt, shorts and running shoes) as they will be put through a selection process that will include physical training and water activities. For water activities they will be required to conduct a 300-metre freestyle swim, 50-metre snorkel swim, a 50-metre swim with a diving mask full of water, a 25-metre underwater swim and 50-metre weight-belt swim. For physical activities they will be required to conduct a 2,4-km run in under 13 minutes, 40 push-ups, 50 sit-ups and seven pull-ups.
Successful candidates will be subjected to HR recruitment process and will form part of the 2024 Military Skills Development Skills Intake.
The nationwide recruitment drive makes a pit stop in the Western Cape province from Monday 29 to Tuesday 30 May at the SA Navy Diving School in Simon’s Town.
