The Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club (GBYC) is proud to host a talk on Saturday 13 May with 30-year veteran of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), Craig Lambinon.
He will share his experiences and details of the work done by the NSRI and will be bringing some special guests to share their stories.
This event is especially significant as Lambinon will host survivors who have been rescued by the NSRI’s dedicated volunteers, and have an opportunity to share their stories and celebrate their survival.
The NSRI is a non-profit organisation that provides a 24-hour rescue service along South Africa’s coastline. Their volunteers are on call to respond to any marine-related emergency, from rescuing people from the sea to assisting boats in distress.
Station 9 in Gordon’s Bay is one of the busier stations along the coast, responding to an average of 60 call-outs a year. In the last few years alone Station 9 volunteers have saved the lives of more than 29 people and assisted with more than 70 rescues.
Lambinon’s talk will be a great opportunity to learn about the incredible work done by the NSRI and the volunteers who make it possible. He will encourage people to join the NSRI and become part of the team, helping to save lives and make a difference in the community.
