Sjarrap en eet jou kos!
Friday 23 June at 19:30
Tickets cost R150
Hard- or soft-boiled eggs? Hot milk or cold milk? White or brown bread? To be or not to be? Was Shakespeare also a waiter? In this tongue-in-cheek play, Ilne Fourie (writer and creator of the comedy Laerskool Noord) pokes fun at customers she served as a waitress. There is gossip, chatter, clucking and, of course, cake and tea until you will laugh your head off. An in-depth look at what happens behind the scenes . . . or would one rather say trays! A day in the life of a waiter is everything but cake and jam!
Fourie brings her comic one-woman show Sjarrap en eet jou kos! to the local stage. In this spicy comedy, Fourie reflects on her time as a waiter and she doesn’t hesitate to put her customers in their place! The stage production was so popular that it was adapted by Fourie into a radio comedy for RSG and is described as “brilliant” and excellent” by listeners.

State of the Heart
Thursday 6 and Friday 7 July at 19:30
Tickets cost R200/R220
Recent winner of the Naledi Theatre Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical Theatre Production for Brel/Piaf, doyenne of the musical theatre Amanda Strydom celebrates the 30th anniversary of her iconic one-woman musical play, State of the Heart. Strydom wrote State of the Heart in 1993 and won the Dalro and Showtime awards for Cabaret of the Year and Show of the year in 1994. The show was the first of her six self-penned, one-woman plays to date, in which she integrates a storyline with music to create a one-woman musical theatre experience. This production has been performed in South Africa, Namibia, the Netherlands, Belgium, on farm verandas, a cave in Hermanus, a train between Johannesburg and Bloemfontein and is still in high demand.
This timeless love story, in six languages, was directed by Ian Roberts, and gently pokes fun at the Afrikaner soul giving a glimpse of the history of SA from the twenties to the late seventies. It was a time when women had to know their place, peroxide their skins (because freckles were considered common); when men wore braces and smoked Springboktwak and boeremeisies had to marry boereseuns! The heroine, Maxie de Meyer (a boeremeisie), falls in love with Raymond G. Bartlett (a dashing rooinek) who also happens to be a RAF fighter pilot – and a drama in the tradition of Springbok radio serials unfolds. Amanda is accompanied by the talented Coenraad Rall on Piano.
