Somerset West: Helderberg Stroke Support Group offers free blood pressure screenings at Timbuild Somerset West, located on the corner of Victoria and Reitz Street, from 09:00 to 12:00 on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July.

Strand: Sencit Resthaven Old Age Home presents its Curry Buffet & Boogie Matinee at Welgelegen Hall in Victoria Street at 15:00 on Saturday (15 July). Tickets cost R100 per person. Somerset West: Helderberg Teatro @ Doxa Deo is ’n splinternuwe, onafhanklike teater in die hart van die Helderberg wat sy deure wyd oopgooi om die kunste na die Kom en sy mense te bring. Die teater open met die fluweelstem van Demi Lee Moore en haar orkes op Saterdag (15 Julie) om 19:00, gevolg deur vertonings met Jannie Moolman op Sondag 30 Julie om 15:00. Die 350-sitplek teater in die Melcksloot Village-winkelsentrum funksioneer vanuit die Doxa Deo Helderberg ouditorium, en spog met dubbel volume en ’n galery. Konserte word hoofsaaklik op Vrydag- en Saterdagaande aangebied. Helderberg: Locals are urged to spend their 67 minutes in commemoration of late former President Nelson Mandela by attending a talk on drug abuse at the Macassar Library and joining a beach clean-up by Gordon’s Bay Library. “Our librarians are leading the charge this Mandela Day by following the example set by Madiba of compassion, acceptance and care,” Councillor Patricia van der Ross, Mayco Member for Community Services and Health. “Although everyone is asked to give 67 minutes to serve, our librarians live this spirit of nation building every day. Somerset West: Broadlands Manor and Die Kunshuis Collaboration presents Art4Seasons Helderberg Edition, which features seasonal art exhibitions, and extends an invitation to locals to join in the celebration of artworks inspired by winter. SONDAG 23 JULIE

Somerset-Wes: Klassieke Klanke, die niewinsgewende organisasie wat klassieke musiek bevorder en ’n platform skep vir veral jong musikante om hul talente te ontwikkel en orkes-ervaring op te doen, bied ’n Musikale Reis deur Duo Duin & Berg aan. Die Afrikaanse en Nederlandse poësie in liedvorm (met Gelske van der Duin as sanger en Yolande van den Berg op klavier) vind om 15:00 by die NG Gemeente Helderberg in Firmountweg plaas. Die geleentheid is vanjaar se eerste konsert vir die organisasie, wat ’n verskeidenheid gratis klassieke optredes deur die jaar aanbied en jaarlikse beurse gee aan jong musikante in nood wat aan vasgestelde kriteria voldoen. THURSDAY 27 JULY

Strand: Badisa Strand in partnership with The Parent Centre will be offering free positive parenting skills training every Thursday from today (27 July) until 7 September. The training is scheduled to take place in seven three-hour sessions at the Ministry of Grace Church at 1 Hammond Street from 09:30 to 13:00. The training is aimed at parents and caregivers of children of various ages and focuses on understanding children’s behaviour, and effective and postive ways of responding to difficult parenting situations. Firgrove: Join Helderberg Hospice for a Winter Wonderland High Tea at Firgrove Primary School. All funds raised go towards providing specialised palliative care for those with life-threatening illnesses in the Helderberg basin. The Helderberg Hospice team of clinical professionals is dedicated to facilitating quality of life and alleviating suffering in the community. For only R150 locals can enjoy a delicious tea with delicacies and a chance to win prizes. Helderberg Hospice is a registered NPO that relies on donations to make their work possible. Their holistic-care approach includes trained palliative-care nurses, social workers and a medical doctor. Summer of 69 – The Ultimate Bryan Adams Experience follows the format of Bryan Adams’ epic Wembley Stadium concert where he performed all the amazing hits we know and love to an over 70 000-strong audience. With songs like “Summer of 69”, “Everything I Do”, “Run to You”, “I Need Somebody”, “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman”, “Cuts Like a Knife” and more, this tribute show will present all the grit and romance that is synonymous with Adams. The band comprises lead vocalist and bassist Ant Kinsey, drummer Malcolm Cassisa, guitarist Simon van Dugteran and keyboard player Simon Kettleborough. The musical delight is on at The Drama Factory on Friday 21 July at 19:30. Tickets cost R180/R200.

On the road with Shania Twain and Keith Urban is a tribute show that covers all of these two iconic artists’ greatest hits. Come and enjoy a special evening with a six-piece line-up, costume changes and great music! Being huge fans of American country music, a tribute show was conceptualised, featuring the hits of the two popular artists who possess the same modern pop-rock country style of music. On the Road with Shania Twain and Keith Urban had its inception in 2022 with successful performances with audience interacting and sing-a-longs at various venues such as Jamrock Theatre, Heroes Restaurant, Die Boer, Die Koelkamers (Paternoster). Some of the hit songs covered in the show include “Man I Feel Like a Woman”, “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, “No-one Needs to Know”, “Still the One”, “Any Man of Mine”; “Blue Ain’t Your Colour”, “Somebody Like You”, “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me”, “Jeans On” and “Where the Black Top Ends” among others.
