In commemorating national Casual Day, which is a widely celebrated national campaign to raise awareness of disabilities and occurs annually on 1 September, Helderberg Hospital medical staff (pictured) showed their support for the Helderberg Stroke Support Group (HSSG) by purchasing Casual Day stickers in aid of the non-profit. The Department of Health and Wellness assisted HSSG to acquire much-needed funds by selling the casual day stickers. “We are primarily funded by other funders,” said Claudia Andrews, HSSG organisational manager. “We are currently in a massive financial crisis. The Department of Health and Wellness coming in and having us as their beneficiary will keep us open for two more months. I cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for Lucky Mazabelana from the department’s disability unit and his team, because this will help keep us on our feet and gives us an opportunity to [continue to] create stroke awareness, high-blood testing and being able to speak to people about the services that we offer. Michelle Buis, deputy director for the Department of Health and Wellness, at the Casual Day event organised by Helderberg Hospital and her department’s disability team, said: “Today [Friday 1 September] is celebrated in aid of people living with disabilities.
