A 37-year-old man from Khayelitsha was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of an illegal firearm in Nomzamo on Sunday night (18 February).
Lwandle police spokesperson Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama said the suspect arrived at the complainant’s house and called him by his name.
“The suspect then apparently said: ‘It’s over for you today’ and took out a firearm and attempted to fire two shots at the complainant,” Game said.
“Fortunately the firearm did not discharge. A struggle apparently ensued between the two men, and the complainant’s sons joined in and managed to disarm the man. Police were then called to the scene.”
The suspect was arrested and the firearm was confiscated.
“Forensic experts will now check if the firearm had previously been used in any other forms of crime,” Gama added.
The suspect will appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court once he has been formally charged for possession of a firearm without licence and pointing of a firearm.
