The small rural community of Rust en Vrede in Raithby were blessed with a visit from multiple organisations, which not only provided access to information for the well-being particularly of youth, but also encouraged and motivated pursuing a life of fullness and hope, away from crime and other negative social forces.

The event, organised by Pastor Andry Lottering and his wife, Ronel, took place in the grounds of the Followers of Christ Church on Saturday 16 March.

He said about 160 people, including children, participated in the activities on the day, which included various engagement sessions, entertainment from the United Gospel string band, and motivational talks from all stakeholders.

Also present were members of the Somerset West police, the Department of Correctional Services, Stellencare and Youth for Life ministries, to name a few.

“The focus of the outreach programme was on social challenges facing the community and to assist youth in building self-confidence,” said Lottering.

“The event also served as a fundraiser, and we’re really proud that it was so well attended and so well responded to. It was a major success.”

The Followers of Christ Church was founded by Abraham and Ellen Julius, and serves as an integral part of the life of the Rust en Vrede community of Raithby.

More than 160 community members formed part of the programme.

The United Gospel String Band provided the entertainment.

Andry Lottering shares a few words with the guests.
