A group of residents of Pringle Bay, under the banner of Rewild the Pringle Bay Baboons, gathered at the centre of the town on Saturday (30 March) between 12:00 and 13:00, when they urged the municipality and Cape Nature to rewild the baboons in the area. Dr Carin Strydom, spokesperson of Rewild the Pringle Bay Baboons group, said as baboon lovers the group would like to see the Pringle Bay baboons living free in the wild. “We would love to see them forage where they want, but preferably not from our kitchens and rubbish bins, and the sleeping on roofs has habituated them and changed their behaviour. We would like the authorities to rewild them before tragedy strikes.” She mentioned that during the day more than 600 people participated in the peaceful protest organised by the group which gained more than 600 signatures from attendees who are in support of the issues raised.
