Local creatives will bring their stories and heritage to life through unique products and interactive workshops on Saturday 29 June.

The Craft and Design Institute (CDI), in collaboration with the Castle of Good Hope, invites visitors to cosy-up to creativity by exploring the diversity of local talent and numerous creative workshops for all ages on at the Kuier@TheCastle market, from 09:00 to 16:00.

This market has been growing as the Cape Town CBD’s biggest new monthly market event, with locals and visitors alike coming together to discover a wide range of creative experiences and products, all set within one of the country’s most iconic tourist landmarks. The market has generated more than R600 000 in value of trade for local craft artisans and creatives since its launch earlier this year.

Fran Stewart, market-development programme manager at the CDI, says the market has established itself as a monthly creative destination in Cape Town, while supporting local entrepreneurs and growing the Mother City’s creative economy.

She says with a host of creative workshops for all ages it is also a fantastic platform for visitors to explore their own creativity.

Next Saturday’s market features several fun creative workshops, including: Crochet – learn to crochet granny squares and be part of a special Mandela day blanket drive; Paper craft – learn the art of paper folding, to create a beautiful protea; Micro-mosaics – work with a jeweller to make your own unique wearable piece; Self-portrait art – be guided to draw a self portrait; Rug making – weave your own coaster; A special kids workshop ahead of Mandela Day (18 July); and making a scented diffuser for your car or home.

Further details for booking for these will be available on the CDI’s social media accounts.

These activities make the market ideal for the entire family, combining the discovery of exquisite local artisanal products and creative workshops with delectable local foods and live music performances. Additionally, all visitors will enjoy access to all the Castle’s museums throughout the day.

Secure free parking is available within the Castle premises via the Darling Street entrance.
