The group of learners and teachers from Beaumont Primary School at Cape Town International Airport before jetting off to The Netherlands during the school holidays.

A group of 40 Grade 7 learners from Beaumont Primary School had the opportunity of a lifetime during the recent school holidays when they jetted off on a learning trip to the Netherlands.

The international visit included stops at three Dutch schools and various educational destinations, providing an enriching experience for all involved.

Over the past few years Beaumont Primary has established a strong partnership with three Dutch schools and Onderwijs Maak Je Samen, thanks to visits by principals from several Dutch schools.

This collaboration began virtually last year, focusing on sustainable living and water-wise strategies, setting the stage for such exchange.

The Dutch schools visited – Basisschool Loysderhoek, Basisschool de Talisman and Basisschool de Boschuil – extended warm hospitality to the Beaumont learners, who engaged in a variety of activities, from observing and participating in classroom lessons to enjoying sports on the Dutch fields.

More importantly, they forged meaningful friendships that transcended geographical boundaries.

In addition to school visits, the learners explored several notable Dutch attractions, including the Nemo Science Museum, a Holland 5D Experience, a canal cruise, Zaanse Schans, Van Gogh Museum, De Ontdekfabriek and the De Prehistorische Open Air Museum.

These excursions allowed the learners to experience subjects taught in the schooling curriculum in a practical and engaging manner.

The trip highlighted not only the educational advancements of the Dutch system, but also the unique aspects of South African culture. Reflecting on their journey, the learners expressed gratitude for their homeland’s breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and cultural traditions, such as the beloved lekker local braai.

This educational journey underscores the importance of global citizenship and cross-cultural learning, providing invaluable insights and experiences for the young learners of Beaumont Primary.

Apart from visits to threeschools, the Beaumont learners and teachers also explored several notable Dutch attractions during their visit.
