With reference to the article titled “Overflow engulfs the new PTI” (DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, 31 July).
It truly is hard to believe the City of Cape Town has plans to put us, residents of Lourens, Church, Reits streets in Somerset West, in such a lousy position, surrounding us with taxi ranks.
We were not where we wanted to be with this new Public Transport Interchange (PTI). The noise is still deafening, windows rattling, taxis ignoring traffic lights and blocking streets off, a mess only set to get worse.
Why is there not enough space for all the taxis and buses in the “glorious” R64 million PTI?
What were the specs on the plan? Who signed off this contract with insufficient space for taxis and buses?
I would assume there is also too little space for the vendors as there is now already a vendor stall as one enters the taxi rank from Shoprite side.
Who made such a huge blunder? Why not put a rank in Caledon Street, where the hold was supposed to be when the PTI was started?
Why did the DA quickly make a very hasty move with the taxis to Church Street? Why?
Up in the affluent areas of Lourensford, Land & Zeezicht, Heldervue and so on are thousands of house cleaners, gardeners, garage and shop assistants who are dropped off along the way. So why not put a taxi rank up there? Too affluent? Too rich? Or, does the DA know it will be sued to hell and back as they were told to bugger off out of Caledon Street?
Who of the DA big shots would like to live with this rubbish they are surrounding us with? Would Mr Rob Quintas appreciate this? Is the new PTI stand really on the most suitable place?
DA, are you encouraging us to move out of this area? All homeowners are of colour; is that why they are doing this? This City does not work for us.
Come on, Somerset West, let’s get together and address this rubbish. Look at the state of Somerset West and Main Road – truly disgusting.
