False Bay Primary School hosted its library inauguration with a formal affair at the school hall last Saturday (17 August). Among the special guests who embraced a new chapter for the school, which finally boasts a fully-fledged library thanks to various sponsors, was Ntombozuko Makana (left) of EDULIS, the Western Cape Education Department’s Library and Information Service. All smiles were the glamourous Kauthar Peters, Saskia Wenn, Janine Maart and Janishia Pedro who enjoyed the sit-down launch together.

Dr Bryony May was warmly welcomed by Fredelene Joseph. The guest brought along the valued donation of The Yogi Bairns’ Seaside Cleanup, a book by cherished friend Kirsty Doig, a physiotherapist, children’s yoga teacher and founder of the Darcy Sunshine Foundation, which brings water-safety education to schools.

The library launch programme was led by master of ceremonies Noel Oostendorp. The talented actor of Arendsvlei fame is pictured with local author Judith Vollmer, who is also the new school librarian. The Strand resident is pictured holding her latest children’s book, Kyla se Winter Kersfees.

Lizette Williams and Tamryn Roelf witnessed the grand opening of the vital learning resource with sheer joy and celebration.

Offering their unwavering support to the school’s newly appointed librarian, Judith Vollmer who used the library inauguration as a platform for the launch of her latest literary offering, are loved ones Isabel Vollmer and Tiffany Robertson.

Judith Vollmer pictured with False Bay Primary School principal Desmond Engelbrecht, who beamed with pride over the milestone occasion that succeeded the brand-new school building realised in January. For Engelbrecht the library is more than just a building; it is “a symbol of hope, a catalyst for change and a testament to the power of education in transforming lives”.

Shaun Phillips, Rhoda-Ann Bazier, Juliet Tandy, Nicholas Etson, Mary Plaatjies and Christopher Hendricks attended the event.

Sharing in the momentous celebration of a vital resource not just for the school, but also for the community are Theresa Etson, Jacolene Arends and Lorraine Geland, representatives of the Reach Out To Others (ROTO) team.
