Bookings for the Steenbras River Gorge and Crystal Pools Hiking Trail will open on Friday 1 November due to ongoing repairs after the winter season rains. “The City of Cape Town recorded unusually high rainfall over a short period this past rain season. As a result, the water levels raised significantly across the Steenbras River Gorge and Crystal Pools Hiking Trail, allowing the Steenbras Nature Reserve team to assess parts of the trail only a few days ago. Unfortunately, the team has found that several sections of the trail have been damaged,” stated a press release issued by the City’s media office. “The in-house team has already started the necessary maintenance work on Friday (27 September), and we are confident that the trail will be ready to open to the public by 1 November.” Bookings for the hiking trails are typically open from 1 October each year, with hikes starting from 1 November. However, due to the possibility of unforeseen delays in the ongoing repair work, the booking season has been postponed by one month.
