Harbour Island and Gordon’s Bay Harbour transformed into a bustling hub of open-water swimming on Sunday (17 May), as the venues played host to the highly anticipated Orca Harbour2Harbour Swim.

Powered by KFC and presented by Fluidlines, the event drew hundreds of athletes as this year’s edition marked a massive milestone for the competition, recording 25% growth in participation over last year, with a total of 530 swimmers taking to the starting line.

The event attracted 530 swimmers.

The clear, calm waters hosted fierce competition across both the 3 km challenge and the popular 1,6 km sprint.

In the premier 3 km men’s open category, Antony Clayton put on a clinical performance to cross the finish line first, followed closely by Matthew van Coller and Callum Lewis.

Among the first out of the water (from left) were Maric de Roubaix (first woman, 1,6 km), Matthew van Coller (second man, 3 km), Antony Clayton (first man, 3 km), Michelle Weber (first woman, 3 km), Thomas Klopstra (second man, 1,6 km) and Luan Terblanche (first man, 1,6 km).

In the 3 km women’s division, renowned open-water ace and South African swimmer Michelle Weber showcased her world-class pedigree, capturing gold ahead of Caitlin Evans and Kirsten Engelbrecht.

Meanwhile, the 1,6 km distance delivered high-octane racing from start to finish. Luan Terblanche secured the top spot in the men’s division, while Maric De Roubaix claimed a stellar victory in the women’s category.

Proceedings got underway early, at 07:00, with registration kicking off at Krystal Beach Hotel on Harbour Island.

Every competitor who braved the waters walked away with a commemorative finisher’s medal and an official event goodie bag.

With entry numbers growing dramatically and the coastal backdrop delivering flawless conditions, organisers extended heartfelt thanks to all sponsors for making the event a resounding success.
