After a week of battering winds and debris-strewn streets, the Helderberg community is looking forward to calmer waters.
With only a few days to go, excitement is reaching fever pitch for the region’s favourite swim of the year. The Harbour to Harbour Swim is set to take place in Gordon’s Bay on Saunday 17 May.
Organisers have issued a final boarding call for athletes and weekend warriors alike, warning that the event is almost at capacity. Those who want a spot will need to act fast, as entries will close the moment the cap is reached.
There is a distance for every level of fitness:
– 3 km Open Water Swim: the ultimate test of endurance, starting from the scenic Harbour Island;
– 1,6 km Point-to-Point Swim: a classic course from Gordon’s Bay Harbour; and
– 4 × 400 m Harbour Island Relay: perfect for those who prefer a fast-paced team-building challenge within the safety of the island waters.
The event promises a festive atmosphere that extends well beyond the water’s edge. Spectators and participants alike can look forward to a vibrant finish-line experience that includes live music, a post-swim feast and a lively race-day atmosphere designed to shake off the winter blues.
Finishers will receive medals, while lucky draw winners will take home sponsor vouchers and premium product hampers.
With the event nearly full, organisers are urging residents not to leave it to the last minute. “Don’t be the one watching from the shore. Secure one of the final spots today,” they urged.
