Wine enthusiasts along the Cape’s celebrated Stellenbosch Wine Route now have a compelling new reason to explore the Helderberg region, with the launch of the Avontuur estate’s dramatically upgraded Cellar Door facility.
Located on the scenic R44, between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, the reimagined tasting venue combines contemporary design with breathtaking vineyard vistas, accommodating up to 70 guests in a sophisticated yet relaxed environment.

Mountain views meet modern design
The new facility showcases seamless indoor-outdoor flow, with floor-to-ceiling windows flooding the space with natural light. From the expansive terrace visitors enjoy panoramic views across rolling vineyards with Table Mountain’s iconic silhouette as backdrop, while overhead vine canopies provide natural shade and ambience.
“We wanted to create a space where families and friends could genuinely connect when experiencing the beauty of our Helderberg location,” a spokesperson for the estate said. “The design celebrates both our wine-making heritage and the spectacular landscape that defines this region.”
Location draws local wine lovers
Positioned on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains near the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, Avontuur Estate occupies prime territory at the midpoint of one of South Africa’s most popular wine routes. This strategic location makes it particularly attractive to local residents seeking convenient access to premium wine experiences.
The estate offers three distinct tasting collections: The Taberer Family Reserve, The Avontuur Collection and The Thoroughbred Collection. Each session is guided by knowledgeable staff who share insights into the estate’s winemaking philosophy and regional terroir.

Accessibility takes priority
In a move reflecting growing industry awareness Avontuur Estate has prioritised accessibility in its new design. The facility features wheelchair-friendly access via ramps, designated parking spaces and clearly-marked accessible restroom facilities.
“We’re committed to ensuring everyone can experience the beauty of the Helderberg Wine Route comfortably,” the estate noted, emphasising their inclusive approach to wine tourism.
