Helderberg Sunrise Rotary Club hosted the annual Teachers’ Conference at Bundles of Joy Childcare Centre in Macassar on Saturday 14 March.
It aimed to support and uplift Foundation Phase teachers across the Helderberg. The event was opened with a welcome address by Gail Sykes, president of Helderberg Sunrise Rotary Club, after which master coach Renée Lighton delivered an impactful presentation entitled “Learn. Play. Create”.
Teachers then had the opportunity to participate in a meaningful workshop presented by representatives of the South African Institute of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, which focused on mindfulness and well-being.

The session offered participants practical tools and gentle reminders about the importance of caring for their own mental and emotional health while supporting the learners they serve every day, a powerful and grounding experience for the teachers, because when teachers are supported entire classrooms benefit.
During the conference there was also an opportunity for school principals and their representatives to join Helderberg Sunrise Rotary Club for a valuable discussion session. Together they explored the real needs within local schools and shared ideas on how Rotary can partner with teachers to make a meaningful difference in their communities: listening, collaborating and working together for stronger schools and brighter futures.
To wrap the event up those present took to the floor for some line dancing. “Laughter, music and a few new dance moves brought the day to a joyful close,” a statement from the local Rotary club read.
“It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved, a perfect reminder that connection, fun and well-being are just as important as learning. All in all, a fantastic day shared with these incredible educators!”
