The streets of Strand transformed into a sea of pink on Sunday 8 February as the Boland Islamic Council Women’s League (BICWL) hosted its highly anticipated 2026 Boland Pink Walk, which also commemorated the 21st instalment of the annual event.

Full of smiles were Sharon Carnow, Bronwyn Cox, Amanda Frantz and Miriam Lyons.

The event, which started under cloudy skies and with a fresh breeze at 08:30, proved to be a roaring success in powerful demonstration of community solidarity.

While organisers officially processed 3 750 entries, the actual turnout was significantly higher.

Many attendees chose not to walk the official route, instead paying the R50 entry fee simply to stand in solidarity, wear their commemorative bandanas and contribute to the cause.

Organisers confirmed that about R204 000 was raised through donations and entries.

Hundreds of participants stand in eager anticipation at the start.

In a significant move for local healthcare, R100 000 of these funds have been allocated directly to the Groote Schuur Hospital Oncology Department to assist with their life-saving work.
