Gordon’s Bay police officers were “given their flowers while they can still smell them” by their community during a heartwarming National Police Day event on Tuesday 27 January, a heartwarming gesture to honour the proud officers in blue while they are actively serving.

The Gordon’s Bay Community Policing Forum (CPF) and spiritual crime-prevention group organised the celebration at the police station as a way to acknowledge officers for their active service.

“We always honour our fallen heroes, but we wanted to honour our current members while they are at their stations and doing their jobs,” said Sergeant Jeremiah Naidoo, coordinator of the spiritual crime-prevention group.

Sergeant Mornรฉ de Lange spoke about the sacrifices police officers make, highlighting how they balance work and family life while leaving the safety of their homes to face danger for the community’s protection. He said they did this out of love for protecting others and respect for the uniform. The celebration attracted notable figures, including Khayelitsha Sub-District Police Commissioner Brigadier Mnoneleli Magobiyane, the sub-district’s CPF chairperson Marlon Solomons, and former Gordon’s Bay CPF chairperson Donovan Brown, who now serves as the sub-district’s deputy chairperson. All three addressed the officers.
