The spirit of Christmas arrived early for 10 beloved local residents as the staff of Strand Clinic hosted their annual “Adopt a Grandma” Christmas Lunch campaign on Wednesday 10 December.

The heartwarming tradition, started by the clinic staff, aims to foster community support and well-being for elderly women who regularly visit the facility. The joyous event took place at Friedman & Cohen in Strand, which generously provided the venue and delicious meals.
The “Adopt a Grandma” initiative focuses on 10 adopted elderly women, ensuring they receive love and attention during the festive season. The honoured grandmas who attended this year’s lunch were Sheila du Plessis, Verity Majoor, Maureen de Jager, Getruida Strauss, Susan du Preez, Dalcia Smit, Gloria Rossouw, Lereche Seege, Zelda Petersen and Sarie Stols.
Dr Ilan Solomons, a medical doctor at Strand Clinic, shared a message of heartfelt gratitude following the successful gathering. He acknowledged “our Lord and Saviour” for the opportunity to fellowship together and expressed thanks to Sister Sumaya Yacoob and all clinic staff for their love and support.
Solomons gave special recognition to Nurse Claire George, who “went above and beyond by involving her family and friends in the preparations”.
Addressing the guests directly, he said: “A special ‘thank you’ goes to the lovely ladies, the grandmas; without you this event would not have been possible and we hope to see you at future events.”
Yacoob, operational manager at Strand Clinic, echoed the appreciation for the support received.
“A huge ‘thank you’ to Strand Clinic for hosting this beautiful initiative and to Friedman & Cohen in Strand for their generous venue and wonderful meals,” she said. “Your support made this day truly special for our lovely ladies.”
She extended thanks to George, all family and friends, along with the management and staff of Friedman & Cohen, whose contributions were vital to the event’s success.
The annual lunch campaign continues to be a cherished highlight, strengthening the bond between the Strand Clinic and the local community it serves.
