Kadoshi Judokwai Somerset West judokas shone bright at the South African Schools and National Open Judo Championships held at the University of Pretoria from Monday 30 June to Saturday 5 July.
Charl and Jean du Toit bagged gold medals for their Goshin-Jutsu kata. They attained a 70% score, which qualifies them to join the national judo kata team.
The pair will next compete at the African Judo Kata Championships in Mauritius in September. They also qualified to participate in the World Judo Kata Championships, set to held in Paris, France in November. The duo also competed in the Nage-No-kata and achieved a bronze medal.
Anja de Villiers and Tuvya Hough competed in the Group 2 Nage-No-kata and brought home the gold in the SA Schools kata competition.
Hough also competed in the SA Schools novice group 2 under 46kg fighting category, where he won a gold medal in the division. Jean du Toit competed in the national veteran and senior (group 6) fighting divisions, winning a gold medal in the veterans’ division and ending fourth in the senior (group 6) division.
“We are enormously proud of all our judokas who represented the Cape Town Judo Association and Kadoshi Judokwai Somerset West at the national event. [Locals can] see our judokas in action on Mondays and Wednesdays at Lourensford and Cloetenburg roads, Somerset West,” the club said in a statement.
๏ฎThe junior class is held from 17:00 to 18:00, while the senior class takes place 18:15 to 19:30.
